The ingestion of particles or cells by phagocytosis and of fluids by macropinocytosis requires the formation of large endocytic vacuolar compartments inside cells by the organized movements of membranes and the actin cytoskeleton. Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytosis is guided by the zipper-like progression of local, receptor-initiated responses that conform to particle geometry. By contrast, macropinosomes and some phagosomes form with little or no guidance from receptors. The common organizing structure is a cup-shaped invagination of the plasma membrane that becomes the phagosome or macropinosome. Recent studies, focusing on the physical properties of forming cups, indicate that a feedback mechanism regulates the signal transduction of phagocytosis and macropinocytosis.
Yabai Bicycle Club was founded in 2007 in Orlando, Florida by bicycle enthusiasts and dumpster divers associated with Orlando Food not Bombs. We ride fridays to our favorite dumpsters to recover materials for bicycle monstrosities - we emphasize the use of freaky, recovered/homemade bikes for this ride, but all bikes are welcome. We build on mondays.
All decisions about the group and what we do are made by consensus, and we are committed to a horizontal/non-heirarchical group formation. We don't accept "alternative" fuels to be a solution to climate crisis, nor alternative to any other corporatized post-grassroots movement. We hold that bicycles, particularly, those that would otherwise fill landfills, are a real solution to the issues of overconsumption that created the environmental crises today. "Alternative," "conscious," etc. consumption will never solve consumption, only "hopenotize" those concerned OUT of action against the source of their misery.
We hold events to benefit grassroots movements in our communities, and represent at Orlando Critical Mass.
Membership to this group is based upon invitation, new members must be down with our goals and views and complete an initiation (you'll see what it is...).
